Welcome to the site of the residents’ group for Stop Misterton Quarry.
The group was organised to resist planning application ref 2024/EIA/0116/LCC and is open to any resident of the parish of Misterton with Walcote and anyone else with an interest in opposing the planning application.
Misterton and Walcote have a long history. Both were mentioned in the Domesday book with Misterton the home of the church and the Manor but Walcote the bigger settlement. Over the years, both have grown, so that most recent data gives Walcote and Misterton a combined population of over 500 residents.

The parish is in the south of Leicestershire, immediately to the east of junction 20 of the M1 motorway. It is chiefly agricultural with both arable and livestock holdings. In addition, there is a substantial SSSI and important flood plains for the River Swift, a tributary of the Avon. Residents recognise that sand and gravel are needed for developments throughout the country and that they can only be extracted from a limited number of places, but this site has insurmountable problems, so should not be developed.
Planning consents exist for warehousing to the south of the A4304 and for a development of approximately 2500 houses to the north of that road. Together, the quarry, housing and warehouses would cover approximately 25% of the undeveloped land within the parish. This surely must be overdevelopment of two rural settlements. Please do take time to browse our site. We welcome any interest, particularly if you have skills which would help us resist the application.
Thank you for your interest.
